A melting pot for comics, food and travel - CanIndia News

New Delhi, May 25th (IANSlife) Launched in 2020, Graphic Travelogues is proving to be a remarkable stage for comics and graphic novels depicting travel. Your culinary area is a supraregional platform that documents and illuminates the travel experiences of comic artists across national borders, identifies recurring topics and new artists and thus presents and creates treasures in this art field.

The “Graphic Travelogues Culinary”, a project of the Goethe Institute, serves the tastiest dish made from ingredients that nourishes your soul, nourishes your mind and delights your palate. The immersive project presents travel experiences by artists from India, Bangladesh and Germany.

Travel and food stories are documented on this globally accessible platform and enable intercultural experiences through comics and graphic novels.

As travel blogs become more popular and get millions of hits every second, the potential of comics is being tapped to interact with graphic travel blogs on social media.

According to the Goethe Institute, GT Culinary is a unique expedition in which professional chefs and enthusiastic travel bloggers from different cultures and cities come together for a rendezvous with gastronomy, travel and comics.

Through living experiences and the resulting sketches, the project demonstrates graphic cooking and artistically delivers the most amazing recipes. At the forefront of the culinary journey are teams of a chef or influencer and an illustrator who bring the cooking to life, research and illustrate aspects of the project. It also encourages the public to follow the teams’ culinary art and artistic expedition and see the world through their eyes – from shopping for ingredients to step-by-step preparation of the dish in times when physical travel seems like a distant reality.

The website gives an interesting insight into Team India: “The famous Indian blogger duo Delhi FunDos saw that the food in a region reflects the local culture, the philosophy of life of the people. Together with illustrator Kruttika Susarla, they embark on the GT #culinary journey in Delhi. The adventure begins at a Bengali market in Mini Kolkata. There they buy Shukto and Methi Chicken – one dish from Punjab and one from Bengal. “

Team Germany (Berlin Biryani) consists of cjeg Felicitas Then, head chef and food blogger; and Alexandra Klobouk, author and illustrator for culture and content. While the Bangladesh (Fried Loitta Fish) team from Sameera Hussain Wadood, head chef; and Sayeef Mahmud, illustrator.

Safurat Balogun, Project Manager and Head of Library Services, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi, says: “When we launched Graphic Travelogues in the middle of the pandemic last year, we envisioned the next phase of the project to include would: Bring artists together through residencies. We quickly realized that this couldn’t happen that quickly, so we had to think about alternatives. This is how Graphic Travelogue’s #Culinary was born. Food, travel and comics – we’re sticking to that this year to bring the best chefs, travel bloggers and cartoonists together for a unique culinary adventure. Three cities, three teams, three recipes – one experience. ”

The culinary and artistic journey is available at www.goethe.de/India/graphictravelogues/culinary.

The pandemic has turned consumer behavior on its head and the acceptance curve for newer, better and more relevant products has gone through the roof

From Atul Hegde

About a year ago, I made the cardinal mistake of ordering a home delivery meal through an app that was the best in its class for table reservations, especially in upscale restaurants in my town. I just assumed they’d be just as good at having food delivered from the same restaurant they’d been so efficient at getting me reservations. But it was nothing short of a catastrophe; You totally botched a simple delivery. Today, due to a series of enforced lockdowns, much of their business is from grocery delivery, and they’re mighty good at it.

The pandemic has turned consumer behavior on its head and the acceptance curve for newer, better and more relevant products has gone through the roof. It is no longer a question of whether a brand should adapt to market changes and consumer preferences; now it’s about how quickly they can adapt. If brands don’t see this change and act accordingly, they will soon be irrelevant. The last 15 months or so is by far the fastest in which to change consumer habits and brand adoption. A tectonic change is taking place and it is fascinating to see how brands master this challenge. Categories that have been hit the hardest are also the ones that show the quickest answers.

To stay alive

The travel and hospitality industry – one of the hardest hit industries – has some great stories of product innovations that have kept brands relevant and alive even as sales have plummeted. Emirates was the first to introduce global Covid insurance for all of its flyers. It didn’t stop there. The brand went from introducing special PPE uniforms for staff, to celebrating a fully vaccinated flight crew, to adding additional revenue streams with aggressive promotions for the purchase of miles at discounted prices. The Emirates brand has remained relevant to its core consumer. Closer to the house, an old brand like Taj Hotels quickly realized that they had to push food delivery and started their own food delivery app. Also true to its brand ethos, the Taj Group was at the forefront of Covid relief efforts, be it by providing meals or overnight accommodation for our Covid warriors on the front line.

The auto industry, which has been hit by manufacturing challenges, has also shown an amazing tenacity to recover; and some segments have seen record sales. Luxury brands like BMW have launched a contactless sales program that ensures minimal real world contact when purchasing your vehicle. Mercedes had a number of launches across all segments, and almost all of them were digitally powered.

The opportunists

We also saw some great examples in the opportunity sectors – sectors that benefited from rapidly changing consumer habits, like digital payments and FMCG. The immunity boom has fueled several innovations from old FMCG steeds and also start-ups in this area. Brands like Dettol, Dabur and Unilever have all brought new products and flavors to market at an amazing rate and are enjoying success with consumers.

Digital payments have seen incredible consumer adoption: India ranked # 1 in real-time payment transactions in 2020. The UPI payments backbone has changed the way India handles transactions. You can now open bank accounts at home and get all personal loans without physical meetings as all KYC is done online.

These times are like no other that we have experienced in our lives. It’s amazing to see how companies keep their brands alive with a combination of great product innovation, pinpoint brand messaging, and most importantly, incredible speed to market. It is truly a case of “only the fastest will survive”.

Opinion: Second-hand clothing, not owning a car, chopping wood to heat my house: Why the FIRE movement is too economical for me - MarketWatch

I regularly read blogs written by those who withdrew early to lead a life of extreme frugality. Are you careful with money? Even so, I doubt you would enjoy the frugal lifestyle of many of the FIRE (Financial Independence / Early Retirement) movement’s frugal lifestyles.

I certainly wouldn’t. If I go on another cruise, I won’t book an inside cabin. I can’t imagine my wife buying clothes from a thrift store and wearing them for the next 10 years. Things that seem too frugal to me: Never go out to eat. Never travel. Don’t own a car. Live on a secluded piece of land and chop firewood for heating. Pick up toys from the curb for the kids. Move to Mexico for the low cost of living.

And no, I don’t trust my glasses to an online service to save money. Don’t get me wrong: I avoid designer frames and design everything else. I tend to be thrifty. I avoid spontaneous purchases, buy the latest and buy unnecessary stuff. Still, you usually get what you pay for. Have you ever read about the things you should never buy in a dollar store?

But it’s not just the extreme thrift of the FIRE people that bothers me. Rather, it is also the associated claim to be financially independent.

Don’t get me wrong: I don’t mock these frugal people, and I’m not a snob. But understanding the lifestyle necessary to be financially independent when living on a tiny budget is important.

Of course, these people seem happy with their choices. Many are actually high-income bloggers, writers, and podcasters who are sought after by the media. So I’m jealous. Nobody comes to me. Being an old school dinosaur is no news.

One blogger claims to have lived on $ 7,000 a year or less for a decade. Another says his family of five lives on $ 40,000 a year and only spent $ 296 on groceries in March. The U.S. Department of Agriculture sets a low-cost grocery plan for a family of four at $ 892.90 per month. Even a frugal eating plan is valued at $ 676.80 per month.

The same family pays almost no health insurance premiums because they keep their incomes low enough to receive grants under the Affordable Care Act. In March, her net worth rose $ 68,000, ending the month at $ 2,648,000. The lesson: Since the state usually counts income but not wealth, some of the thrifty may qualify for subsidies and tax breaks.

One couple who retired 30 years ago at the age of 38 said: “At the end of 2020, we were spending $ 28,133, or $ 76.87 a day. We also screwed up the $ 2400.00 stimulus check for repairs at our humble US residence. Our average spend for 30 years of financial independence, or 10,950 days, is $ 23,241 per year or $ 63.67 per day. ”You live mainly in Mexico now, travel, and have lived all over the world. Honestly, all of this is beyond my understanding, but it seems to be working for them.

When I stopped working after a 50-year career, I retired. Now I’ve learned that retirement may not mean what I thought it would be. Some people claim to be retiring early after having simply given up their current job for something less demanding – a life of doing your own thing, so to speak, but not really stopping to work for an income. Does the $ 6.70 I make every month on my blog make me a hypocrite?

Every man for himself. But where would we be if everyone retired at 38?

10 Caribbean-based Instagram Food Accounts to Follow - Yahoo Lifestyle UK

In The Know is proud to celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month. This month our team will be highlighting a wide range of Caribbean and Caribbean American-owned brands. We encourage you to support today and beyond.

There are thousands of Food Instagram accounts devoted to home cooking recipes, plant-based foods, the city’s best dishes, and more. One area that could use more attention on the platform, however, is Caribbean cuisine.

Finding authentic Caribbean recipes is not always easy, and as some food bloggers point out, that’s because these recipes are prepared with a pinch of it and a pinch of it – with feeling. But some bloggers have decided to create new recipes and write old ones to share their culture with the masses.

Founded in the Caribbean, these Instagram food accounts aren’t just pretty pictures of jerk salmon and lamb curry. Follow them for tips, tricks, and recipes for making your own Caribbean meal at home.

1. @alicaspepperpot

Alica Ramkirpal-Senhouse is a Caribbean-American food blogger who shares Caribbean recipes through her blog and Instagram account Alica’s Pepperpot. “My goal is to encourage and inspire you to connect with the flavors of the Caribbean and use my recipes as a guide,” she writes on her website.

2. @foodienationtt

Foodie Nation is a food website based in Trinidad and Tobago with the aim of promoting the island and strengthening it through food. You can find his recipes on his website, videos on Youtube and photos on Instagram. Click follow and be sure to try the curry crab filled dumpling recipe!

3rd diagram

Annick Mégie is a Haitian food blogger and photographer whose Instagram account @tchakayiti definitely makes you hungry. In 2019 she was a SAVEUR finalist for “Best Food Culture Blog”, but her Caribbean recipes are all winners.

4. @typhaniecooks

Typhanie is a Jamaica-born Florida-based food blogger who publishes her Caribbean recipes directly on her Instagram account. And there is no shortage of delicious plantains!

The story goes on

5. jehancancook

Jehan is from Guyana and writes on her website that she started her blog because she discovered there was a lack of authentic Caribbean recipes online. She shares these recipes on Instagram along with some updated versions – you’re sure to love them all.

6. @caribbeanpot

Chris H De La Rosa is the man behind @carribbeanpot, and he’s made it his business to bring Caribbean food to the crowds. (And he’s really good at it.) Although he was born in Trinidad and Tobago and now lives in Ontario, Canada, he offers recipes from all over the Caribbean islands.

7. @cooklikeajamaican

There’s something particularly sweet about this gourmet Instagram account. This is where you’ll find Mama Fay teaching her daughter Angela (and her followers) how to cook family recipes old and new like a Jamaican woman. And yes, most, if not all, of the recipes have their roots in Jamaican cuisine.

8. @homemadezagat

If you want quick (ish) Caribbean recipes @homemadezagat is the Instagram account for you. Founder and food blogger Renz specializes in creating easy-to-follow recipes for busy Caribbean mothers like herself and for people who may be trying to cook Caribbean cuisine for the first time.

9. @wheresthefoodjo

If you’re less of a cook than a diner, share some of the best dishes from across Jamaica on the @wheresthefoodjo Instagram account. Give it a try to find the best ackee and saltfish, jerk chicken, peppered shrimp, and more.

10. @trinicookstt

This Instagram account contains all of the Caribbean recipes created and shared on Cup of Joe Caribbean, a culinary lifestyle television show hosted by Joel Villafana in Trinidad and Tobago. The recipes are posted right in the captions so you can like and save the posts to cook right away.

Why China's Hanfu Trend Won't Cool Down - Jing Daily

The central theses:

  • Hanfu has grown from a niche Gen Z hobby to a huge consumer market of 400 million people in just a few short years.

  • The rise of Hanfu is being driven by a mix of rising nationalism, savvy local brands, and increased social hype among the Chinese generation.

  • For brands, Hanfu’s continued popularity among young Chinese proves that consumers want brands to recognize their cultural heritage and break away from a Western-centric standard of beauty.

In recent years, young Chinese people have elevated Hanfu – traditional Han Chinese costumes – from a niche hobby to a generation cultural expression while turning it into a consumer market of 400 million people. Fueled by a mix of rising nationalism, skillful local branding, and KOL-driven hype, the rise of Hanfu is a telling example of what young Chinese consumers today expect from brands – an appreciation of their cultural heritage and a post-hegemonic approach to style manufacturing.

Alibaba said over 20 million people bought hanfu on the Taobao shopping site last year. In July 2019, Alibaba launched its Gutao app, a social platform devoted to Hanfu shopping to meet skyrocketing consumer interests. Shisanyu, a DTC Hanfu label founded in 2016, climbed the site’s top ten best-selling brands list last year and is now worth $ 16 million.

Gen-Z China’s passion for Hanfu has also turned this trend from being a pure internet phenomenon to one of the hottest cultural topics in the country. At the SS21 Shanghai Fashion Week last year, Hanfu shows were a central part of the program. Since 2018, the annual Hanfu Festival in Xitang has been attracting more than a hundred thousand visitors every year to meet with other enthusiasts and look for new trends.

But despite Hanfu’s mega success in young China, only a few international luxury and fashion brands have started to participate in this trend.

There are real reasons brands shy away from it. First, Hanfu is a culture-specific costume. Hence, it is difficult for brands to incorporate the aesthetic dissonance and dressing difference of Hanfu from Western fashion in designs intended for a global audience. Second, as consumer boycotts accusing brands of “cultural appropriation” become more prevalent in the industry, brands may want to avoid meddling on a high profile topic due to abandonment culture fears.

As irrelevant or difficult as the Hanfu trend may seem for luxury and fashion brands, it still offers valuable insights into the industry’s most sought-after consumer segment: young, affluent Chinese Gen Zers who pride themselves on their cultural heritage. The rise of Hanfu signals a shift in the way they define what’s cool and how they build their self-image in a country that is becoming increasingly resistant to Western cultural power.

The trend of incorporating traditional Chinese elements such as hanfu into the daily fashion routine is sure to stay with the Chinese youth. On the most popular social platforms of the Gen Zers, Bilibili and Douyin, KOL content like “Everyday Hanfu Guides” and “Genderless Streetwear Hanfu” has gained in importance as more and more young people combine Hanfu pieces with Balenciaga sneakers and Supreme hoodies. Travel vlogs with titles such as “Wearing Hanfu in Rome / London”, in which young bloggers make Hanfu their uniform in western tourist destinations, have also become a popular genre.

“Genderless Hanfu Lookbook”, a story by Bilibili blogger @Li YiRu. Source: Bilibili

Referred to as “洋 洋 折衷” (the middle ground between Chinese and Western style) in the Hanfu community, this term perfectly sums up the new golden formula that looks cool for young China today: combining traditional Chinese culture with a little Western flair – and add a lot of loot.

@ 喵 爷 碎碎念, a Hanfu KOL on Bilibili, told Jing Daily that consumers are expecting a more modern, well-made Hanfu in the next few years. “(Consumers expect) designs that fit a modern lifestyle better without losing respect for traditional forms of Hanfu. And as young people learn more about Hanfu over the years, they become more demanding and demanding, ”she said. The historical accuracy of the pattern making, the craftsmanship of the embroidery, and the hours of manual labor are all important metrics in evaluating the quality of a Hanfu.

Aside from the increasing role of heritage-inspired styles in the Gen Zer’s fashion routine, the rise of Hanfu also shows their interest in traditional Chinese culture as a whole. On the Chinese Tiktok (Douyin), the hashtag #hanfu is a megatrend site with over 300 million hits. But Hanfu Mode content is only a small part of it. Most of this trend consists of posts about traditional cultural hobbies that people practice while wearing Hanfu, such as martial arts or finger dances.

Hanfu KOLs have therefore expanded the content of Hanfu fashion into a comprehensive revival of Chinese traditions. @Shiyin, who appeared on the cover of the March issue of US Vogue as the figurehead of the Chinese Hanfu movement, was busy launching a video series entitled “What is Luxury” to showcase Chinese luxury traditions in front of Louis Vuitton. @Gu Xiaosi, another big Hanfu KOL, turned their usual Hanfu beauty content into introductory videos about Chinese tea ceremonies and art history.

For many young Chinese, wearing Hanfu was a powerful gesture that reminded them of their cultural identity and inspired them to delve deeper into that legacy. This heightened cultural awareness will inevitably raise the bar for international brands looking to bring Hanfu-inspired or China-inspired products to market.

“I think it’s good for western brands to get involved in and promote the Hanfu culture. After all, the Chinese culture of luxury is reflected in Hanfu manufacturing, where precious fabrics such as Gambier Guangdong silk and cloud brocade are often used. But brands need to have a deep understanding of Hanfu culture first and not just post some Han elements and use them as a marketing tool, ”said Hanfu KOL @ 喵 爷 碎碎念.

When the Hanfu craze first came into view in 2018, most international news viewed the trend as a symbol of young China’s growing cultural trust. Three years later, the trend not only refused to wane, but is now reaching the masses and growing faster than ever.

For brands, Hanfu’s enduring appeal has more far-reaching implications than evidence of China’s growing pride. Instead, it suggests that China’s younger generation wants a sense of freedom of choice. They want to wear something that is in keeping with their own traditions, outside of the consolidated western standards of beauty. Their opposition to homogenization, not politically fueled patriotism, lies at the center of Generation Z’s attraction to Hanfu.

She celebrated the night before at an afterparty after Tammy Hembrow’s Saski Collection show at Australian Fashion Week.

And although she admitted she felt “dusty”, beauty blogger Sammy Robinson looked amazing when she took part in the St. Agni Show on Friday morning.

The 25-year-old Gigi Hadid doppelganger twisted in a short shirt that was knotted at her ribs to reveal her toned abs.

She combined the top with a matching cream-colored knit skirt with brown combat boots.

When it comes to accessories, the blue-eyed and blond-haired beauty kept it simple, adorned herself with gold jewels and carried a small black designer leather bag.

Before going to the show, Sammy admitted she was “covered in dust” after attending an after party for Tammy Hembrow’s Saski Collection show.

Despite her young age, Sammy has made a career as one of Australia’s most successful beauty bloggers.

In an interview with Vogue Australia last month, she said that there is no real secret to her success, she is just trying to be herself.

“Just do it. All the others are already taken, ”she told the publication.

“There’s no point in being someone you aren’t, it sounds clichéd, but people will really be able to tell if you’re in for the wrong reasons or if you’re faking it for fame.

But she admitted that her job was as fabulous as people could imagine.

“Traveling the world with some iconic, beautiful brands, working with my passions and creating content – beauty and fashion – and having flexibility,” she added, speaking of the benefits.

Seema Gurnani, 26-year-old food and travel blogger from Vijayawada, dies of - News18

The uncertainty of life and the cruel machinations of the coronavirus have once again wiped out the life of another young person. The 26-year-old food blogger from Vijayawada and founder of the very popular food and travel blog Panda Reviewz, Seema Gurnani, recently succumbed to the Covid-19 virus. Seema caught the virus sometime in March and died on April 4, reports say.

The young woman started her food blog Panda Reviewz in 2016 and soon became a very popular and trusted source for authentic and fantastic food in Vijayawada and later in other parts of the country and shortly afterwards even outside of it. Seema, who had traveled extensively for her blog, had documented both street food and other places where people from all over could try the best cuisine.

As a huge street food lover, Seema had her own unique style while presenting food from every nook and cranny. “Restaurants have several ways to market themselves. But there are these authentic street food restaurants that offer some really tasty vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I’m trying to write more about her so people can try some really incredible Andhra food, ”she was quoted as saying by The News Minute.

Seema started out as a non-vegetarian but soon became a vegetarian and her blog became one of the most authentic and reliable ways for people to know where to find delicious food.

Seema last posted her review on March 11, talking about the Trippy Tree Café in Vijayawada. Seema’s friends and fans mourned her on social media platforms and condolences poured in from everywhere.

A relative of Seema also went to Facebook to announce the news of her death. “It’s saddest when your story is incomplete! Seema Gurnani, you were a great food blogger, influencer and owner of Panda Reviewz and cousin sister-in-law. Life is so fragile, spend it doing what you love and with the people who matter most to you. Take COVID seriously, it can affect anyone! RIP Seema, “reads the post.

Seema, who used to work in Hyderabad and was an avid traveler, quit her job a few years ago and started blogging full-time for food.
